Clinical  Supervision

Are you looking for independent and creative Supervision to support and guide your professional work as a Psychotherapist, Counsellor or Social Care professional?

My work as an accredited Supervisor is informed by the principles, theory, practice and ethics of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy.

My skills and trainings are broad and include Body-Psychotherapy (Biodynamic), Transpersonal, and Trauma-specific Psychotherapy, EMDR among many.

I place a particular emphasis on mindfulness,  compassion and a supportive holding of the Supervisee and client process.

Case - Consultancy

As an experienced Practitioner you value the support that Supervision can give you, the reflective space where you are able to talk to an experienced Therapist about any dilemma you might have encountered.

You benefit from the creative exploration of the client dynamics and process. While you generally need less guidance in your professional development you are open to inspiration and ideas that can enrich your practice.

I am offering this on an individual basis as well as in small groups of 4.

Become a Sponsor

This is a groundbreaking, new sponsorship model to provide low-cost counselling to a few select clients.

When approved, it will allow a person with financial strain or low income to receive independent, compassionate and Trauma-specific psychotherapeutic support  that they need and choose.

A Sponsor (and client) will remain anonymous and in category 1 (private) and 2 (corporate) and will make a monthly donation that will benefit a client in need who could not otherwise benefit from this high-level service.

Guided by our ethical principals, our team will decide to which client a partial funding of the sessions will be given.

A Sponsor in category 3 can fund either partial or in full the sessions of a known person (e.g. a relative). Confidentiality only applies to the content of the sessions.

Testimonials

Testimonial (April 2025)

When I came to Markus in 2024 I was suffering from burnout, emotional exhaustion, severe anxiety and depression.
I was at a stage in life when I was caring for an elderly parent with dementia and was in a very stressful working environment. I thought that I was resilient enough to handle the challenges life throws at me having had a successful career and home life for many years through multiple challenges. I can only describe my mental health deterioration as creeping up on me silently.
Thanks to a good friend suggesting I go see my GP, I started putting the right supports in place and these included therapy sessions. I had some sessions with another counselor but I didn’t feel any real benefit from them.

I then started going to Markus in Bantry.

Markus created a safe and supportive space for me to talk through what was making me anxious, how I felt about work, self doubt, negative self image. He was both encouraging and instructive in helping me to understand the underlying causes of my anxiety, the self protection methods that I had applied throughout life to survive as a result of childhood trauma. He helped me to understand the patterns & behaviours that stemmed from protecting myself as a child and that they no longer served me well as an adult. Through talk therapy sessions, informed guidance on home journaling and reflection, and his skill at using EMDR methods, I discovered ways to rewire my thought processes and look at life with a whole new perspective.

I am truly grateful to Markus for the support, empathy, understanding and teaching that he has given me to get to a better place of mental and emotional health. He has shown me how to identify the old negative thought patterns. I now have tools to process these anxious moments without accumulating the associated negativity and self doubt.

I would highly recommend Markus as a therapist and counselor.

"When I first met with Markus I was studying to complete an M.A.   I was under a lot of pressure at the time.   Over the course of my studies Markus was a tremendous support, helped me identify and build on my strengths and helped me deal with many personal issues.

His gentle, intuitive, supportive approach allowed me unravel many unconscious internal barriers I had constructed for survival.   These had become an impediment to my development and were no longer helpful.   No matter how much pressure I felt within myself  going into a session, I always left feeling enlightened, understood and accepted without judgement.    Throughout my experience I was treated with respect and dignity.   I felt valued as a person and as a consequence was able to put more value on myself."

A Supervisor Who Empowers Growth: My Experience with Markus

As a new therapist starting my journey with complex trauma cases, I felt overwhelmed and unsure.  Then I began clinical supervision with Markus, and it became a turning point in my professional development.  Here's why:

1. Expert Guidance with a Supportive Touch:  Markus possesses a deep understanding of complex trauma and its impact on clients. He skillfully translates this knowledge into practical guidance, offering insightful case discussions and creative therapeutic approaches.  This expertise was invaluable in navigating challenging situations and formulating effective treatment plans.  But beyond the knowledge, Markus fosters a supportive and collaborative environment.  He celebrates my successes while providing constructive feedback in a way that feels encouraging, not demeaning.  This balance between challenge and support fosters a sense of security and empowers me to experiment and grow as a therapist.

2. Fostering Confidence in the Face of Difficulty:  Working with complex trauma can be emotionally draining.  Markus recognizes this and creates a safe space for me to process my own counter-transference. He encourages open communication about challenging cases, allowing me to vent frustrations and receive emotional support.  This not only promotes my well-being but also builds my confidence in handling difficult situations and intense emotions that arise in therapy.

3. A Collaborative Learning Journey:  Supervision with Markus is a true learning experience, not just a box to check.  He actively engages in discussions, encouraging me to explore different theoretical frameworks and treatment modalities.  He also recognizes the importance of staying up-to-date on the latest research and provides resources for continued learning.  This collaborative approach fosters intellectual curiosity and keeps me engaged in my professional development.

Overall, Markus is an exceptional clinical supervisor who fosters growth and confidence in his supervisees.  His expertise in complex trauma, combined with his supportive and collaborative approach, creates a safe and stimulating learning environment.  I highly recommend him to any therapist seeking a supervisor who will empower them to become the best possible clinician for their clients.
